Check out last week’s Star Gazette, which features our very own students at the recent Junior Landcare Tree Planting Day.
Our Officer campus was recently awarded a Junior Landcare and Biodiversity grant, thanks to garden coordinator Miss Jade Spruitenburg. This grant, funded by the Victorian Government, provided students with an incredible opportunity to engage in God’s wonderful creation with a hands-on tree-planting day. Students were thrilled to welcome Mayor Jack Kowarzik – Cardinia Shire and other guests from Cardinia’s Mens Shed, many Parent Helpers and Margaret, our much-loved garden volunteer, who all rolled up their sleeves to help facilitate a great day.
The trees and shrubs selected are all native to the local area, which will in turn provide food species and habitat for native insects and birds. Several nesting boxes were also installed. With the increasing development in the area, our school’s deep hope is to provide a haven for wildlife, contribute to stopping the decline of native plants and animals, and continue to look after our natural environment. It was such a fun day!
