Year 6 Museum Excursion

Our Year 5 and 6 students recently went on an exciting learning adventure to IMAX Melbourne and the Melbourne Museum, bringing their Earth and Space Science studies to life.

The day began with an IMAX documentary that showcased Earth from space. Viewing our planet through the eyes of astronauts gave students a fresh perspective on its beauty and the interconnected systems that sustain life across the globe. Students were particularly fascinated to learn about life aboard the International Space Station. They learned how astronauts travel to and from the station, work together during crew changeovers, and adapt to living in a microgravity environment. One of the most surprising discoveries was how quickly astronauts can lose bone density and muscle strength in space, emphasising the importance of daily exercise to maintain their health.

Following the IMAX experience, students explored the Melbourne Museum, where many enjoyed visiting the Our Wondrous World exhibition. Interactive displays and engaging exhibits sparked curiosity as students discovered more about the diversity, complexity and beauty of the natural world. It was a fantastic day of discovery, providing students with valuable real-world connections to the concepts they have been studying in the classroom and inspiring a deeper appreciation for both our planet and the universe beyond.
