Honouring our Pioneers: Celebrating 56 years of Maranatha Christian School

On Friday 6th March, our community came together to celebrate 56 years of Maranatha Christian School as part of our annual Pioneers Service, a special time set aside to honour and remember the faithful men and women who laid the foundations of our school.

The Pioneers Service is a treasured tradition at Maranatha, providing an opportunity to acknowledge those who sacrificially gave so much more than 70 years ago. Our Pioneers believed in Christian education and put their faith into action by saving, supporting and ultimately establishing Maranatha Christian School. Their vision, perseverance and generosity continue to shape our community today. The vision for Maranatha Christian School extends back to Dutch migrants in the early 1950s, who longed to establish a school where learning would be taught from a biblical worldview. It was also important to the founders that the school be non‑denominational and governed by parents, rather than any one church. After nearly two decades of prayerful planning and fundraising, Maranatha officially opened on 7 March 1970, welcoming students from Prep to Year 6.
Since that time, Maranatha has continued to grow. Our Endeavour Hills campus opened in 1983, followed by our Officer campus in 2006, each an expression of the same Christ‑centred vision planted so many years earlier.
It was a privilege to welcome several of our pioneers and long‑standing supporters to join us for lunch following the service. Sharing stories, memories and gratitude together was a powerful reminder of the faithfulness of God across generations.
We are so thankful for the founders of Maranatha Christian School and remain committed to honouring their legacy by continuing to provide Christ‑centred education for future generations. Their faith, sacrifice and obedience continue to inspire us as we steward the vision entrusted to our community.
