Our students recently had the opportunity to engage in a hands‑on science experience through the Epidemiology Voyager program at Casey Tech School. This program is designed to deepen understanding of real‑world scientific challenges and allow students to step into the roles of molecular biologists and epidemiologists.
Throughout the experience, students investigated how viruses infect and spread within populations. Using DNA‑based biotechnology techniques, they identified viral pathogens and traced the transmission of a new virus through a model population. This practical approach helped bring complex scientific concepts to life and strengthened students’ critical thinking and analytical skills.
In addition, students applied their technology and programming knowledge to design a robot that could support communities during a viral outbreak. This interdisciplinary learning experience combined science, technology and problem‑solving, equipping students with skills that are increasingly valuable in today’s world.
The Epidemiology Voyager program is delivered in partnership with Southern Biological, providing students with access to high‑quality, industry‑informed learning experiences.
